SME only
The Institute for SME Research in Bonn defines as small enterprises all businesses with up to nine employees and less than € 1 million annual sales. Medium-size enterprises are those businesses with between 10 and 499 employees and annual sales between € 1 million and less than € 50 million. The totality of the SMEs is thus composed of all firms with fewer than 500 employees, and less than € 50 million annual sales.
The IfM statistics include all registered businesses in the form of new entries and acquisition of a company by inheritance, purchase or lease.
